Master Bedroom

This is the Master Bedroom, the one room in every house we have ever lived in that I can never get completely finished. There is always some other room that really needs to be done instead and we are the only ones that ever see this one. Well not this time. I will finish both these rooms. I hope :)

The bathroom is going to be the hardest room in the house to do. I have HUGE plans for this one.
Hopefully I can get this gutted and redone just the way I want it.
This big, ugly, useless tub is going to be the first thing to go. It takes up half the bathroom and is just a waste of space.

The plan is to replace it with a claw foot tub.
The vanity will be going too and replaced with a beautiful antique dresser. Right now these are all just plans in my head, because I have had to switch gears and work on the Guest Room for our company that is coming to visit.

However I have got ALOT of the bedroom done.

The inspiration... Our bedroom has always been done in dark colors. Brown, blue, black, red... Then I found this at my Momma's house, and it has BIRDS!!! I also found a few other things at Dirt Cheap while visiting in MS. So this is how my Master began.

This dresser was a Treasure Huntin' find before we even started looking at houses. I had actually been looking for a dresser for years, but never could find one that spoke to me. We had been using a chest of drawers that I found about 9 years ago while trash huntin' (this is different from Treasure Huntin') and a 4 drawer that my Granny Bessie gave me.
After some sanding, a little TLC, and spray paint... This was when our room was red, cream, and black.
We have this... One of my favorite pieces. I have ALOT of favorites.
This is what it looks like now in our new home. Since all our other furniture in the room is black I decided to leave it that way and work with it.

These are the night stands which were our first build. You can see the full post on the build process in here...

I picked these up at Goodwill. I kinda had a vision in my head, but not everything that works in my head actually works in real life.
But they turned out great :)
Two huge drum shade... Treasures :) Also found the fabric while Treasure Huntin'. I could not believe that I found this adorable polka dot fabric that matches the bed sham perfectly.
This wall is still a work in progress. I am collecting some different shaped frames to add here and I want to paint a quote somewhere. Just gotta find the right one.

I'm sure you have all spent alot of time looking for that perfect decorative curtain rod... They are expensive. I went to pick up the metal rods cause I already knew they would be the cheap easy way and I could paint them any color I wanted. Then when I saw the price on just one fo the little metal hooks to hang them on the wall I bought fell over... $8 for a little ugly piece of metal. So I came up with these.
They do take a little more time than the others, but they are prettier and can be used for alot of different things. These can also be found in my Thrown Together shop in different styles and colors.

Here is that wonderful barn wood again :)
And here is what I did with it.
A few coats of ebony stain applied lightly.
And my headboard is complete...

Or so I thought, but my husband likes to sleep with his hand under his pillow so I had to make an adjustment.
I still have to fix the ties on it, because I changed my design halfway thru making it. I will get to that when I make the bedskirt. :) This room will eventually be a completed project, but for now there are other things to finish as always.

The Guestroom Redo

When we bought our new home it was immediately decided that this would be the guest room. It has it's own private bath so that makes it perfect. You know how usually the guest room is pretty much the last room you really get done? Besides the Master of course.
Well now we got company coming.
The bedroom didn't really need alot of attention, just some furniture and a few cosmetic touches.Like getting rid of this rainbow ceiling fan. Yes this was in the room.

BUT... The bathroom only had a fresh coat of paint to make it look pretty. The floor was linoleum that looked like it had been thrown in just because it was easy.
And the tub needed more than a little elbow grease applied.
The caulk was pretty much petrified and years of other peoples crud in all the cracks.

The sink was in good shape and looked fairly new although it has had a fair share of leaks. The toilet was just shot... The metal pole you see is to keep the plunger pulled up because the toilet was running even with the water turned off. There was a mirror there, but the medicine cabinet had been removed. All the trim in here looked like they had just taken all the left over from the rest of the house and mismatched it, and most of it didn't even fit the walls.

I had already decided that those fabulous floors we found at Habitat were going in here. So the first thing to do was rip out that nasty linoleum... That was a HORRIBLE idea!!!

It had been laid on top of even worse linoleum that absolutely would not come up. The second layer was literally ripping up the wood sub floor when we tried to take it out.

So I scrubbed and beached the whole thing.

A fresh coat of sage and the floors are going in :)

The sink is now out of the bedroom and back where it belongs... All new (used) wood flooring, new bright white trim...
And the new toilet :) It is a temporary solution, but our company is coming from Kentucky so they will feel right at home here.
Now to get started on that NASTY tub and recaulk the whole bathroom. I have discovered since moving in that I love to caulk and I am pretty dang good at it too.

While going thru this whole process I have come up with my best invention ever...
I am horrible when it comes to lists. I have at least 5 for this whole redo and I couldn't tell you were any of them are right now. It also seems that every time I have a great idea I can never find anything to write on. And you can forget about remembering all that stuff, my brain is so full of ideas it doesn't have room to store any new ones.
So as I was sitting at my puter one day it happened.
Then I remembered way back when we use to draw and write on our pants in school. See we were smart back then. It just took me a few years to remember that great idea.

I grabbed my pen and started writing. I have not lost this list once :) And it is the only one I have written in the last two weeks that I can still find. Now I just gotta ask my Momma how she use to get all that ink outta my britches. Gonna need these to be reusable and if I can't wash it out I will soon run out of room on these too.

Guest Room "The Furniture"

Family coming to town and had to get this room finished.

These are photos of some of the redos in the room.

Already had the mattress, box springs, and a metal frame. BUT... I wanted to find a headboard that would fit the style in the room. After a few days of looking I found this.
Just a plain and simple piece that I could add a few touches too.
Here is that adorable foot board I got at Habitat. I never had any intention to use this as a foot board at all. I just really liked the curves and was going to cut it up and make something else out of it. When I started this room and knew what look I wanted it to have I just had to put this one in there.
Everything is going white.

About this bed that I decided I just had to have :) Well you see none of the parts were meant to be able to go together.
The frame we had was actually meant to be just a stand alone so it didn't have the metal pieces on the ends that slide into the notches on the headboard and footboard. It also wasn't quite long enough to fit the mattress on after it was attached. And the footboard is longer than the headboard.
Have I mentioned yet that I have the most AMAZING husband in the world. Well I do...
I gave him all these random pieces and he rebuilt a fabulous bed out of my beautiful treasures (or junk as he likes to call it). He amazes me every time I come up with some new idea. And my ideas are never simple. I come up with some crazy idea and he has to figure out how to build it. I usually just have to describe or draw out what I want and somehow he ALWAYS manages to make my ideas look better than I imagined them to be.
This one was a little complicated... As I said none of these pieces went together so he had to redesign the rails. He had to add about a foot on each side of the rails, make brackets attach them to the rails, and make it all fit the headboard and footboard and still be even and level. Then it all had to hold up when the bed was put together. And he somehow managed to make it look so simple.

You'd think this wasn't the first time he had done this, but  have never requested an entire bed built out of random Treasures. But now that I know he can do it :)

This dresser has been in our room for about 9 yrs now. My Granny Bessie gave this to me on a visit home to KY. At the time we were driving a car and everybody told me I wasn't going to be able to bring it down to GA. First of all I have good genes and my Momma taught me well. Also you should never tell a military spouse she can't move something across three states in a car...Because we will do it just to prove you wrong.
I completely dismantled the entire thing and hauled it home.
It has moved about 6 times now, still in pretty good shape. However it was an old handmade piece when I got it so it is starting to loose the drawer bottoms, but it is still sturdy and looks good.

More clean lines and white paint...

Another Treasure Huntin' find. This one also happened to be clean lines, but I had already added some detail to the dresser and headboard so I knew I could tie the whole room together and make it all fit. I like that all the pieces just happened to have clean lines except the footboard. I wanted the room to have a clean, shabby, cottage feel. And starting with all the simple bases made it work out perfectly.

Picked up this chair at Habitat a couple months ago... Knew exactly where it was going the moment I saw it..... I had found an idea that I liked but couldn't find the right piece to fill it. This was it.
Finally getting some color in this room. A beautiful yellow.

These two things were not exactly the prettiest things ever, but I love the little trays and knew I (Chad) could dismantle them for me.
And I was right :)

Cute little lamp

This was a Goodwill find and was black to start with, as soon as I saw it I immediately saw it in white and I had to have it for my guest room. But didn't know what it was going to be... Then MJ reminded me of the ugly trays :)

Just added this to the decor a couple of days ago. I had another mirror that I wanted to use, but this one just looks like it belongs.

This is a few of those little details I have been talking about adding into the room to make everything come together.

I still haven't finished the room, but I will show you a couple of these fabulous pieces.

You will have to wait just a little longer to find out how all of these Wonderful Treasures came together.
